NALSAR University of Law

NALSAR University, Hyderabad, an institution of national eminence in the field of legal education and research, is a residential University established under the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University Act, 1998, (Andhra Pradesh Act 34 of 1998).

It is a fully residential university engaged in teaching and promoting research in law and allied disciplines. NALSAR has the best infrastructure complemented by a challenging intellectual environment. It offers the best in terms of curriculum, teaching methods, skill acquisition, exchange programmes, mooting prospects, practical training, placements and most importantly social awareness. To be a part of the exciting experience of NALSAR University, an aspiring student has to clear Entrance Examinations.

Eligibility

Five-year BA BL (Hons.) Programme

Educational Qualification: Students who have secured 50% aggregate marks in the 10+2 examination or its equivalent are eligible. All Students taking qualifying examination in March/April of the year of the Entrance Test are also eligible to apply.

Age: The student should be below 20 years of age as on July 01 of the year in which he is seeking admission (22 years in case of SC/ST candidates).

Candidates awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also appear for the test on condition that they produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the prescribed marks at the time of interview. Students who are unable to clear the qualifying examination with the requisite marks or obtain a pass in compartment will not be considered.

Only those candidates who secure the minimum prescribed marks at the Entrance Test will qualify for inclusion in the merit list.

Two Year LLM Programme

Educational Qualification: LL.B./B.L. Degree or an equivalent degree of a recognised University having secured not less than 55% of marks in the aggregate.


Admission

BA BL (Hons.) Programme

Admission to the First Year of the 5-year B.A., B.L. (Hons.) Degree Programme is made strictly on merit on the basis of the All India Entrance Test.

LLM Programme

Candidates for LL.M. course shall be selected by the Admission Committee, consisting of the Director as the Chairperson and three other members of the Faculty nominated by the Director as members, based on a combined assessment of, (a) the performance at an admission test conducted for the purpose, (b) the past academic record at the LL.B. / B.L. Degree and (c) performance at the interview to determine the candidate’s aptitude for higher studies and research.

Test Pattern


BA BL (Hons.) Programme

The Test Paper will contain four parts:
  1. General Knowledge – 50 marks;
  2. General English & Comprehension – 50 marks;
  3. Reasoning & Legal Aptitude – 50 marks
  4. Short Answer Questions – 20 marks and Essay – 30 marks (on current topics).

The Test Paper will be of 2 hours duration carry 200 marks and part (a), (b) and (c) will be objective questions and (d) will be descriptive in nature.

The General Knowledge component will cover the following fields:

  1. Significant legal events and developments
  2. Current events of national and international importance
  3. General Science
  4. History of India
  5. Geography
  6. Indian Polity and Economy

Most questions will be of multiple choice answers and there will be no negative marking. The University reserves the right to alter or modify the pattern of the Test.

LLM Programme

The Test Paper is of 2 hours duration carrying 200 marks. The Test Paper will contain questions on General Topic, Constitutional Law and Jurisprudence. The students are required to answer one General Essay, two questions each on Constitutional Law and Jurisprudence. Each question carries 40 marks. Each question shall be answered in not less than 500 words and credit will be given to originality of ideas, writing skill and clarity of thought.

Application

For Application and Prospectus, write to the Deputy Registrar / Registrar giving full address with pin code and the course for which the application is required. All correspondence relating to Admission should be made to the Deputy Registrar at the City Office address only. Prospectus along with prescribed application form is usually made available from February onwards at the city office or by sending a Bank Draft including Test Fee in favour of “Registrar, NALSAR University” payable at Hyderabad (please note that the amount payable is subject to change at the discretion of the management and therefore you are advised to check with the college prior to dispatching the DD).
