Nursing PG & Post Diploma Courses Entrance Examination
Christian Medical College & Hospital Vellore offers different Nursing Post Graduate and Post Diploma courses. The institute conducts All India Entrance Examination for admission to these courses. The Courses offered by Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore for Nursing training are
- M.Sc.(Master of Science) Degree in Nursing
- B.Sc. Nursing for Trained Nurses
- Fellowship in Family Nursing Practice
- Post Basic Diploma Programmes in Nursing
Eligibility
The eligibility for Courses :-
- M.Sc.(Master of Science) Degree in Nursing
- B.Sc. Nursing for Trained Nurses

- Post Basic Diploma Programmes in Nursing
offered by Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore for Nursing training are :-
I. M.Sc. Nursing (2 Years Programme)
- Passed B.Sc Nursing Degree of the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai or any other university accepted as equivalent there to.
- B.Sc. Nursing graduates should have had a minimum of 2 years of experience after registration on or before 30th April of the year of examination in any teaching hospital or in a College / School of Nursing or in a Community Health Nursing Programme.
- B.Sc. graduates who have passed B.Sc. degree programme for Trained Nurses need not have 2 years of experience after graduation for admission to the programme. They can be admitted soon after graduation.
- Must be a Registered Nurse and Midwife, registered with the Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council or any other State Nursing Council.
- Male candidates should have passed any other course prescribed by INC in place of Midwifery, and it should have been registered with the State Nursing Council. These candidates are not eligible for admission to Maternity Nursing irrespective of their experiences in the area.
- Candidates should be medically fit.
- All candidates who gain admission have to submit the eligibility certificate from the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai at the time of final registration for admission.
II. B.Sc. Nursing For Trained Nurses (2 Years
Programme)
- Must be a Diploma holder in Nursing
- Must be a Registered Nurse and Midwife, registered with the Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council or any other State Nursing Council .
- Should have a minimum of 2 years of experience after registration on or before 30th June of the year of examination in any institution / hospital or as a full time Public Health Nurse.
- Male candidates should have passed the alternate course prescribed by INC in place of Midwifery, and it should have been registered with the State Nursing Council.
- Should be medically fit.
- All candidates who gain admission have to submit the eligibility certificate from the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai at the time of final registration for admission.
III. Fellowship In Family Nurse Practice (I Year)
(This Fellowship is designed to prepare nurses for advanced nursing practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. A Family Nurse Practitioner is a registered graduate nurse who undergoes additional advanced preparation to provide primary health care to clients across the life span, primarily in families and ambulatory care settings, practicing in collaboration with Physician/Surgeon).
Basic B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc. Nursing for Trained Nurses Graduates with a minimum of one year of experience as on 30th June of the year of examination in any clinical area in the hospital or in the community.
Must be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife
Male candidates should have passed the alternate course prescribed by INC in place of Midwifery and it should have been registered with the State Nursing Council.
IV. Post Basic Diploma Programmes (12 Months)
B.Sc. /Diploma in Nursing Graduates with a minimum of one year of experience as on 30th June of the year of examination in any clinical area in the hospital or in the community.
Must be a Registered Nurse and Registered mid-wife.
Male candidates should have passed the alternate course prescribed by INC in place of Midwifery and it should have been registered with the State Nursing Council.
Selection Process
I. M.Sc Nursing and B.Sc. Nursing for Trained Nurses
Candidates who have applied for M.Sc and B.Sc. (N) for Trained Nurses will have to appear for a written test in the College of Nursing, Vellore on the specified dates.
There will be a preliminary selection committee meeting following the entrance exam to select a limited number of candidates for the final interview. Those who are called for interview will appear for the interview on the specified dates.
The list of candidates selected for the programmes will be notified the day after the interview.
II. Post Basic Diploma Programmes In Nursing
There is no entrance test or interview for Post Diploma Programmes. The candidates selected for the programmes will be intimated by post by 15 May of the year of admission. All programmes are of one year duration.

There is no entrance examination for Post Basic Diploma Courses.

The application for registration with the Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council (TNNMC) must be obtained from the TNNMC on payment of prescribed fee for each form (require two forms for Nurse and Midwife registration). The duly filled in TNNMC registration application must be submitted to the Council directly along with the following things :-
prescribed registration fee,
Original and Xerox copies of the Nursing Degree/Diploma certificates.
Original and Xerox copies of the registration certificates from the State Nursing Council, where you have obtained the Degree or Diploma in Nursing. (d) Xerox copies of the basic educational qualification certificates and proof of date of birth.
Course Completion certificate for the Nursing programme (s), mentioning clearly the duration of the course (day, month and year).
