Eligibility Application Procedure Additional Information

The consortium is a unit established by the Karnataka Private Medical / Dental Colleges Association. Only those colleges which are affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and recognised by the Medical Council of India / Dental Council of India are eligible for the membership of COMEDK. The consortium will conduct the Common Entrance Test on behalf of management who are its members for admission to professional courses.

For admission to BDS course, the candidates are required to appear for the COMEDK UGET being conducted by COMEDK.

Eligibility

Age: The candidate should have completed 17 years as on 31st December on the year of the admission.

Educational Qualification: A candidate who has passed the second year Pre-University Examination or 12th standard or equivalent examination approved by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the languages of study and obtained at least 50% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology group. In addition, the candidate should also have secured at least 50% marks in English.
(In case of candidates belonging to SC / ST, the aggregate in PCB will be 40% and 40% marks in English - Documentary proof must be produced)


Application Procedure

The application form of COMEDK may be obtained from their office on payment of Rs.600/- by Demand Draft drawn in favour of “COMEDK 2005” payable at Bangalore or from the office of the member institutions or from the office of the Nitte Education Trust, Mangalore. The form can also be downloaded from the website www.comedk.org.

The headquarters of COMEDK is at No.37, 1st Floor, Ramanashree Chambers, Lady Curzon Road, Bangalore - 560 001.

Simultaneously, Candidates desirous of seeking admission to BDS course at the A. B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences should send their application in the prescribed format (this requirement is in addition to the application for entrance test being conducted by COMEDK) which can be obtained from the office of Nitte Education Trust, Mangalore, free-of-cost. Alternatively, the same can be downloaded from the website www.nitte.ac.in

The application form, duly filled in should be submitted to the Trust office along with the following:

  1. Attested photocopy of the 10 + 2 marks card.
  2. Attested photocopy of the 10th standard marks card
  3. Photocopy of the proof of COMEDK rank
Selection and Admission

Based on the merit list prepared by COMEDK, A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences will call the eligible students who have applied to the Institute, for counselling, which will be held at the College at Deralakatte.

The admission granted is subject to:

  1. Fulfilment of the norms / provisions made applicable by the Govt. of Karnataka / Dental Council of India / Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
  2. Payment of prescribed fees.
  3. Submission of all certificates and testimonials in original + copies as required.

Withdrawal of Admission: If a student decides to withdraw voluntarily from the college at any time before completing the course, he / she shall communicate his / her decision in writing to the management. A student who fulfils these formalities and who is permitted to withdraw from the course is required to pay the fee for the remainder of the course. Any request for refund of fees either in full or in part thereof will not be entertained under any circumstances in such cases.

Seats Availability

The Government of Karnataka is yet to pass any order prescribing the percentage of seats to be filled by the management.

The A.B.Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, admits students belonging to the following two categories, under the Management seats:

  1. Minority
  2. NRI/ Foreign nationals
  3. General

As of now, the college can admit upto 50% of its total intake under these categories. The college awaits the decision of the Supreme Court of India with regard to the seat sharing ratio between the Management and the Government and also with regard to certain conditions which maybe stipulated for NRI / General category admissions.


Additional Information

Fee Structure
Tuition fees (excluding University fees) fixed by the Government of Karnataka for the academic year 2005-06:

For NRI / Foreign nationals - USD 30,000 for the course

For Minority/ General category - INR 2.75 lakhs per annum The college awaits the decision of the Supreme Court of India with regard to fee structure.

Note:
1. The fee mentioned above is subject to approval by the Fee fixation committee.
2. The fees payable to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences towards eligibility fees, admission fees, registration fees, etc. are not included in the fee structure mentioned above.
