Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Mumbai conducts an entrance examination for admission to MD/MS/Diploma courses. The examination is called PGM-CET and the procedure is called “Procedure for selection and admission to medical postgraduate courses at the State Government Medical Colleges / Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Medical Colleges / Tata Memorial Hospital and Bombay Hospital, Mumbai”.

Eligibility criteria for appearing into PGMCET and taking admission into Medical Postgraduate courses is given as under.

Nationality: Candidate must be an Indian National.

Educational Qualification:

• A candidate, who has passed final M.B.B.S. examination from a recognised medical college included in the Schedule of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and situated in Maharashtra, affiliated to Non-Agricultural Universities established under Maharashtra Universities Act, 1994 or the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Act, 1998 and who has obtained full registration either from the Medical Council of India or Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) after completing one year compulsory rotating internship are eligible to apply for PGM-CET for Postgraduate degree or Diploma courses.

• To be eligible for In-service PGM-CET and admission, the M.M.& H.S. Medical Officer candidates must fulfill the criteria laid down under G.R. No. MMO-1000/ 1870/C.R.883/Seva-3, dated 21 January, 2001, for M.M.&I.S. Medical Officer candidates under G.R.No./ ESIS- 2098/1147/C.R.188/98 /RKV-1, Public Health Department, dated 5 April, 1999 & for B.M.C. In-service candidates as per BMC criteria, for BMC Medical College seats.

• The candidates who are domicile in Maharashtra and who obtained admission under 15% quota for All India Entrance Examination (AIEE) for MBBS course and who have obtained the degree from a University situated outside the State of Maharashtra will also be eligible for PGM-CET

• Only those candidates from Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Medical College, Pune, Pravara Rural Deemed University Medical College, Loni, Ahmednagar and Dr.D.Y.Patil Deemed University Medical College, Mumbai who have passed / will pass the Final MBBS Examination from conventional non Agriculture Universities/MUHS, Nashik only, will be eligible to appear for PGM-CET.

• Candidates who have completed terms for postgraduate diploma course or would be completing terms by 31 March of the year of examination are also eligible for appearing in PGMCET and for admission to postgraduate degree registration in the same subject.

• Candidates who have not obtained permanent MMC / MCI registration by 15th April of the year of examination are not eligible for admission.

• PGM-CET paper is of three and half hours duration containing 300 multiple choice questions (MCQs).
• There shall be no negative marking for wrong answers.
• The Common Entrance Test shall be of the standard of MBBS Examination and shall cover all the subjects of MBBS Course.
