Health Science Courses

Government of Maharashtra conducts a single stage Combined Common Entrance Test for selection to all degree courses in Health Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, BVSc.& AH and Engineering courses under Govt./ Corporation /Govt. Aided Colleges and Govt. Quota in Private colleges. The entrance test is called Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET).

The Competent Authority for the conduct of MHT-CET (Maharashtra Combined Common Entrance Test) examination is Director, Medical Education and Research (DMER), Mumbai, Maharashtra.

However, for the selection process there are two separate Competent Authorities. Director, Medical Education and Research (DMER), Mumbai is the Competent Authority for selection to Health Science courses.

And Director, Technical Education (DTE), Mumbai, Maharashtra is the Competent Authority for selection to Engineering and Pharmacy courses.

Health Science Courses

The entrance examination for selection to all Health Science Courses in state of Maharashtra is done by Directorate of Medical Education and research (DMER) Maharashtra. The entrance examination is called as Maharashtra – Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET). The MHT-CET entrance examination is held for the vacant seats at all Government/Corporation and Government aided Health Science institutions. The entrance examination is applicable to government quota seats in private colleges and to the remaining seats in private colleges, if their management so desires.

Registrar, Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Science University (MAFSU), Nagpur, is the Competent Authority for selection to Veterinary colleges, notify the details of selection process separately.

The merit list of MHT–CET is also used for selection to B.Sc. Nursing courses.

Eligibility

Nationality: The candidate must be an Indian National.

Age: The candidate must be of 17 years of age on the year of examination to appear for MHT-CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test).

Educational Qualification: The candidate must have passed the SSC or equivalent examination from an Institution situated in the state of Maharashtra. However this condition is relaxed for a candidate who is domiciled in or is a permanent resident of Maharashtra for seeking admission to the courses in Health Sciences provided that the candidate is eligible under the following Rules of Educational Qualification.

Rules of Educational Qualification

An aspirant must have passed the qualifying examination i.e. Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC/12th Standard) or equivalent examination, from an Institution situated in the State of Maharashtra with Biology (Zoology & Botany), Chemistry, Physics and English.

  1. Rule For MBBS/BDS: A candidate belonging to Open Category must not have obtained less than 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together at the HSC or equivalent Examination.

    A candidate belonging to Backward class must have obtained 40% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together at the HSC or equivalent Examination.

  2. Rule For BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BPTh, BOTh, BASLP and BP&O: Pass in HSC / 12th Standard or equivalent examination.

  3. Rule For BSc. Nursing: A candidate belonging to Open category must have obtained 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English taken together at HSC or equivalent examination.

    A candidate belonging to backward class must not have obtained less than 35% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English taken together at HSC or equivalent examination.

  4. The candidates who are appearing for qualifying examination i.e. HSC or equivalent examination in February/March of the year of examination are also eligible to appear for MHT-CET. However, they must fulfill the eligibility condition for the course at the time of selection.

  5. The Candidates claiming a Hilly Area Seat must have passed their SSC or HSC Examination from Hilly Area.

  6. All the candidates seeking admission to health science courses in State of Maharashtra must have to appear for MHT-CET, except the candidates to be admitted against 15% All India(AIEE) quota and nominees of Government of India (GOI) quota .

  7. Candidates seeking admission in BUMS course should have passed SSC (or equivalent) examination from the recognised board with Urdu as one of the subject.


Examination Pattern

MHT-CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) for health science courses consists of two question papers of 100 marks each i.e.



Paper I:- Physics & Chemistry (50 marks each)
Paper II:- Biology (Botany & Zoology - 50 marks each)
There is no choice among the questions.

There is no negative marking for wrong answers.

Syllabus

Syllabi of Physics, Chemistry & Biology for the MHT-CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) is same as that of HSC Examination of HSC Board of Maharashtra.

Language of Examination Paper

The medium for examination papers is either English, Marathi or Urdu for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The option once exercised about the medium by the candidate shall be irrevocable.

Examination Centres

Generally the MHT-CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) is conducted at all the district headquarters of the state of Maharashtra. The MHT-CET examination centre falls within the same district from where the candidate has passed / is appearing at the qualifying examination i.e. HSC/12th Standard examination.

For the eligible candidates passing qualifying examination from outside the state of Maharashtra, the Competent Authority allots the examination center. The center once allotted by the Competent Authority is unchangeable under any circumstances.

Application Form

The Application Form and Information Brochure is made available at Jr. College/school where student has given his/her requisition. Prescribed application forms as per the requirement is obtainable from Head Master/Principal of the college where candidate is studying/studied for qualifying examination and also from the Principal/Dean of the college notified by the Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DMER) Mumbai Maharashtra.

Service Bond

Candidates selected against the seats of Government colleges for admission to MBBS / BDS courses will be required to sign a bond to serve the Government of Maharashtra or Local self-government or Defence services for a period of two years, failing which he/she will be required to pay Rs.5,00,000/- (Rupees Five lacs only) for the default. Additionally, he/she will be required to sign an undertaking to the effect that he/ she will not leave India within a period of five years from the date of obtaining the degree.
