The Birla Institute of Technology popularly known as BIT was established in the year 1955 at Mesra, Ranchi, which is now in Jharkand state of the Republic of India. The institute was founded by the Philanthropist- Industrialist Mr. B M Birla with a vision to be recognized as a world-class learning institution for engineering and technology by providing the highest-quality academic programmes that foster student development and connect knowledge, practice, and outstanding scholarly research. The Institute offers Under Graduate, Post Graduate as well as Doctoral level programmes in Engineering & Technology, Applied Sciences, Remote Sensing, Computer Applications , Information Science, Bio-Medical Instrumentation, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Business Management & Hotel Management & Catering Technology. B I T is a "Deemed University" under Sec. 3 of the U G C Act 1986. Part Time Post-Graduate Programme : Under continuing Education Programme Institute may offer admission to any of these post graduate programme provided sizeable number of candidates opt for the same. For all the ME/M.Pharm./M.Tech. Programme sizeable number would be 5 to 10 minimum. For MBA and MCA Programme minimum number shall be 30. At appropriate time admission notification shall be issued in local dailies with the Extension Centres offering these programme. The eligibility requirement shall be same as prescribed for the Full Time Programme. However, the candidate would be required to have minimum of 2 years work experience. Candidate would not be required to sit for competitive examination. It may be noted that regular classes are held for admitted students in evening and duration of such programme is 1.5 times of respective fulltime Programme. Institute does not offer correspondence courses. # Admitted students with valid GATE SCORE will be eligible to receive scholarship upto the number sanctioned as indicated and subjected to release of funds from UGC/AICTE.
